01Why dates slip
Most shops don't lose the date on the floor. They lose it at the quote.

The date is promised before anyone checks the brake
A job gets quoted with a delivery date from memory. Nobody looks at what the press brake or the weld bay is already carrying that week, because that information lives on a whiteboard that was accurate on Monday.

One late plate quietly moves nine jobs
Material slips three days. The operations behind it slide, but nothing tells the person answering the phone which customers are now affected, so everyone finds out at the end of the week.

Rescheduling means rewriting the board
When a machine goes down, the schedule is re-derived by hand. It takes a morning, so it happens rarely, and the printed traveller on the floor stops matching reality.
These are the problems we heard while scoping Takta with people who run fabrication shops. We are not publishing counts, names or survey figures for those conversations.
02Mechanism
Four inputs, one derived schedule.
Routing, in shop terms
A job is a sequence of operations across named work centers such as laser, brake, weld and finish, each with a setup time and a run rate you set once per center.
Capacity, not wishful hours
Each work center has real available hours: shifts, how many machines, planned maintenance. Operations are only placed into hours that exist.
Material as a gate
An operation cannot start before its material is on site. Expected arrival dates hold the operation instead of silently consuming machine time.
A date you can defend
The earliest completion the routing and capacity allow, with the slack shown. Change an input and the schedule re-derives, with no rewriting of the board.
03Shop types
A weld bay and a laser are not the same constraint.
Takta is being designed against three specific shop patterns. Each one changes what the scheduler has to hold onto.
