Sheet metal
The nest, not the job, is the unit of machine time
Parts from several jobs share one sheet. Cutting is fast and cheap to sequence; the brake and the kit-completeness rule decide when anything can actually ship.

Weld fabrication
Capacity is people, not machines
A bay is only available if a welder qualified for that procedure is in it. Operations are long, hard to split, and fit-up has to happen before an arc is struck.

Setup dominates and fixtures collide
Setup can outweigh run time on short quantities, one fixture serves several jobs, and long unattended cycles cross shift boundaries.
